SCHOOL SPIRIT DINKY-DI EXTRAS! Return to today's cartoon

G'day. Welcome to the Dinky-di Extra page. Here is where you'll find all the little comic strips and bits and pieces that didn't make the main site. Usually they will be short, stand alone comics based on topics from the real world that don't fit in with the storyline of the world of School Spirit. They'll be stored here as little extra treats without disrupting the flow of the real story.

Extra Songs of Australia!

Khe Sahn

Written and performed by possibly the greatest Australian pub band of all, Cold Chisel, this song tells the story of an Australian Vietnam veteran after returning home. It is one of several unofficial Australian anthems, and only the first few bars need to be played before the rest of the audience usually sing along so the band can sit down and have a break for three minutes. The lyrics and a link to a midi file are available here.

And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

Written by Eric Bogle, this ballad tells the story of a young man in 1915 who experiences the events of the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey, the event that all but shaped the character of the recently independent Australian nation. Both the lyrics and links to a midi file and mp3 of the song are available here.

Woorabinda

This one's pretty much an original piece, although borrowed heavily from the Leonard Cohen song 'Hallelujah' from the movie Shrek. No, it's not Australian, but it's our account as teachers of the primary schools' music camp of 2005, held at the school camp Woorabinda. At this stage only the lyrics are available here.

Extra Poems and Ballads of Australia!

The Ghost of the Murderer's Hut

Published originally in the Bulletin newspaper on 30 December 1893, the Ghost of the Murderer's Hut is written by the great Australian bush ballad of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, 'Banjo' Paterson. In relation to School Spirit, it's the influence for one of the storylines in the comic.

Extra School Spirit Cartoons!

Pope John Paul II

It was a sad day for the world when he passed away a week after Easter, 2005. Cody's got his own perspective on the whole situation though.

Charles and Camilla

Eight years after the death of his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, finally managed to marry his long time mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles. There was some controversy over the whole situation across the Commonwealth. Miss Conway has her own views too.
